This league is open to anyone ages 8-12 regardless of skill level. The league incorporates a teaching element as well as game experience with volunteer coaches. This is a very good starter league and allows kids to learn at their own pace.
Each week we start with some warm-ups off ice and then head out to the ice On the ice, time is generally split between lesson and game. For the lesson we have instruction each week where fundamental skills of the game are taught and kids have the opportunity to practice and develop these skills. We also provide corrective measures when we see errors. Then we split up into different teams each week to get some gameplay going and the kids have an opportunity to play an end or two of a game (depending on how much time is left and how quickly they can play). At the start of the season there is more time spent on instruction than gameplay as we need to develop some of the skills first that are required to play a game. As the season progresses there is a more even 50/50 split and then for the last couple weeks, time is more focused on gameplay. The season will wrap up in late March.
CSA approved helmets are required for participants under the age of 12. For more information please see our Helmet Policy.
